Dr Allison Moore was born in Cape Town and attended Micklefield Girls’ for her primary school education . She and her family moved to Knysna in 1999 where she would work in her father’s Family Medicine practice over school holidays.

 

She completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2010.  It was during this time that Dr Moore developed an interest in community-based healthcare while working in the NGO SHAWCO (Students’ Health and Welfare Centres Organisation) at UCT.  During her final year of undergraduate studies she held the position of President of SHAWCO Health.  In recognition of her work, she was awarded the UCT Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Affairs’ Student Leader Award for 2010.

 

After completing her medical school training, Dr Moore moved to Pietermaritzburg to complete internship followed by community service in Kimberley in the Northern Cape. 

 

Dr Moore has worked towards a career in surgery since her undergraduate training, with her passion for this craft continuing throughout her internship.  It was at Gray’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg that her interest in Urology began.

 

Following her community service Dr Moore benefited from a few years of training in Urology and General Surgery as a medical officer before entering into the University of Cape Town’s urology training programme in 2016.

 

Having graduated as a Fellow with the College of Urologists of South Africa in 2020, Dr Moore is currently undergoing super-specialist training as a Urogynaecologist at the University of Cape Town.  She will be the first Urologist in South Africa to undergo this accredited Urogynaecology fellowship.

 

Dr Moore is married to Dr Ryan Moore, a paediatrician.
