Dr Samkele Salukazana was born in the small town of Mount Fletcher in the Eastern Cape. He completed his medical degree at Walter Sisulu University in 2007, and later worked in the Department of Urology at Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital before starting his specialist training in urology at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital. He was admitted as Fellow of the College of Urologists of South Africa in 2019 and obtained his Masters degree with distinction from the University of Cape Town in 2020. He also obtained a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from the University of Strasbourg in France.
Dr Salukazana is passionate about minimally invasive surgery and led the roll-out of robotic surgery program at Groote Schuur Hospital in 2021. He is a certified robotic surgeon and now performs robot-assisted prostatectomies using the Da Vinci X system at Kingsbury hospital. He held the position of consultant urologist at Groote Schuur Hospital and senior lecturer in the Division of Urology at the University of Cape Town, before joining Cape Urology full time in 2024. He also serves as a member of the Prostate Cancer Foundation Medical and Scientific Advisory Board.
Samkele practices general urology but has a special interest in urological oncology (i.e treatment of kidney, bladder, and prostate cancer) and endourology (i.e stone surgery, benign prostatic enlargement). He is passionate about delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care to all his clients.
